I was assigned to Seperate Guard during my short tour at PI. While on guard duty, several "Joes" attempted to infiltrate into the amo storage facility. I gave the required warning words and warning rounds, and fired for effect -- killing one of the infiltrator. I received a General Court for my action and was escourted out of the country. I enjoyed my tour at the base.

I was in the P.I. right AFTER the coup attempt in Dec 1989. I got there Jan 1990. I was in port plt. for a year I guess and then in starboard for my next year. I was an A-co. a-hole of course! My primary mos was artillery but it blew and after I rotated back to the states they sent back to that hole in Lejeune. I got out in Aug of '93. I went to college, got bored, moved to Alaska, fished, and then joined the Navy Seabees in '97. Five years was enough of that nonsense. I am back in Minnesota going to college for law enforcement. I met my soon to be wife Angela(my Greek Goddess) in Crete on deployment. I'm getting married in Aug of this year 2004. I was in P.I. for Pinatoubo, base strikes, blah, blah, you know the time period. I am still in contact with Ken and Aida miller(port), Cpl Langfeldt(starboard)now Capt. Langfeldt and Papa Mike -Cpl. Arcilla. I am the Godparent of one of his kids, Apple. I was a great two years there. I'd love to hear from anyone who would love to share old times. My roommates there were Cpl. Gulsby, Cpl Carrol, Cpl. Garner, Cpl. Coca. I always wondered what happened to Sgt Mcguire. If anyone wants to come fishing in Minnesota give me a call. I live 45 minutes south of Fargo, N. Olongapo city, Greatest liberty on earth..I went back to Philippines in 1972 and did not see U.S for nine years..That is how much I loved the Philippines. I became involved in the movie business and did a number of Filipino movies and several top american films..I am receiving DI {Boys in Company 'C}, Played a hitman in [Sticks of Death]. Extra in Apocalypse Now, ect..Also did a co staring performance with a chinese singer from Hong Kong at the PhiAm Life Auditorium in Manila in the 70's. Hello, I stumbled upon your website through one of the official Marine Corps websites. I'm an active duty Navy Lieutenant who's currently stationed here with my wife and two young children (11 month old girl and a busy 2 1/2 year old baby boy) at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Rota, Spain. I was born in Olongapo City and worked as an electronics apprentice at Ship Repair Facilities, Subic Bay from 1978 to 1982 before I enlisted in the Navy in 1982 at age 21. I remember passing by the Marine Corps barracks many times appreciating the service you've given my birth country. As a former corpsman in the Navy, I was able to serve with 8th Communications Battalion, 2D FSSG, Camp Lejeune, N.C. before I got picked up for Naval commissioning in 1995. I am a product of Subic Bay. Both my parents, who are now U.S. citizens and are currently residing in California, were employed at the Uniform Shop and Public Work Center, Cubi Point and have a combined service of 55 years to the U.S. military. My greatest and richest experiences were with the marines. From Arctic Warfare in Tarstad, Norway aboard the USS Inchon to the boondocks of N.C., it was all worth it. My best friend, Mike, now a civilian was with the Marines. My brother, Dan served for four years with an Infantry Unit out of Camp Pendleton before he got out and embarked on a college degree. I always have a lump in my throat when I think of the many sacrifices you've made to our country. I was and will always be proud to have served as a hospital corpsman with the marines. I was Mike's best friend. We went to H.S. together and enlisted in the Marines together. Many fond memories still haunt me of the Officers and Men of Marine Barracks, USNB, Subic Bay, and of the Islands themselves. The contacts I privileged while at Subic were very instrumental in the way I have tried to conduct my life. Col. John H. Keith, Jr., and CWO R.K. Wolfe were very influential on a young "wild" Marine. I still consider my tour of duty at Subic as one of (if not THE) most memorable and enjoyable times of my life. It's good to know that someone had the incentive to create a site for PI Marines. I was A Company Port Platoon. I would like to hook up with CPL Jerry Craig, Ryan, Jaras, Morris, and the BANK OF A COMPANY. lol. Damn, Some of the Marines from our time are gone now. One that I remember well was a training accident up at pendelton in late 91 early 92 on the live fire course. Shitty deal. I am a Sgt. now, and work at the Montana State Prison. I supervise about 190 inmates for the state and 4-5 correctional officers. I also own SteadNet, Web Hosting and Design. I have one son, and am working on my 3rd wife. I sure as hell wish I would not have jumped when my eas came in 93, but at the time I could not stand the thought of another training cycle and another float. Alot of the people who stayed are doing great now, Zarnik is a SSGT in recon I think. Lots of others doing very well also. If anyone rembers me drop me a line. Curious as to how my e-mail came to be known. (Glad it did) Carl Kulp who was stationed with me died in about 1997. Do not know any other specifics on him. There are guys in the picture file I remember and others not there that I wish were. Bob Dorn, Bronx, NY. and Cpl. Ward, CT. are two such. I was at both mainside and Cubi Pt. where the First Sgt. was John D. Ormand who was a "death march" survivor from WW 2. Mainside the Sgt.Major was Herbert J. Sweet who later (in 1997 I believe) became the Sgt.Major of the Marine Corps at 8th and I. Colonel Cash was the Marine CO and Admiral Spring was the base commander.

Hello i was with Burning "B" Company 2nd Plt From 1979 - 1981 i got married there against everybody's advice in 1979 we just celebrated our 24Th wedding anniversary we have three children two finished collage and have great careers, the youngest has only one year left then off to collage. i went on after leaving the Philippines to Quntico VA as an instructor where i was promoted to Cpl. from there I went to 1st Marine division and was promoted to Sgt. then to Camp Lejune, Paris Island & Okinawa were also some of the duty stations I spent some time. I eventually I retired a Gunnery Sergeant after a 20 year career in 1999 from time to time I would run into a fellow Marine that I served with in the PI. we always winding talking about the jungle patrols the liberty and the camaraderie among us who spent time in the "MAG" together weather on post or on Jungle patrols i cannot say that all my memories of that time were great but it definitely changed my life after being stationed there.

Detached Guard - San Miguel (April 1971 - November 1971) Separate Guard - Cubi Point (November 1971 - February 1972) Headquarters, Correctional Center - Subic Bay (February 1972 - July 1972) Worked with Armed Forces Police in San Miguel, and later as a sentry at the Correctional Center in Subic Bay. I arrived in the Philppines as a L/Cpl and left as a Sgt. I never served in Viet Nam and my request was denied on three separate occasions. I completed my 4-year enlistment (1969-1973) and was Honorably Discharged. After my separation from active duty, I was happy that I had the rest of my life ahead of me with my arms, legs, hearing, and vision. My tour of duty ended as quickly as it began, and it was certainly a one-of-a-kind experience. I never counted the days and the time passed so quickly that my enlistment was over before I knew it. Now at 52 years of age, I wish I could turn the clock back for another 18-20 minute thee-mile run. Hell, it takes me that long on the shitter, and that's on a good day! I really enjoyed the spectacular views at Cubi Point of the towering cumulus clouds as storms developed, and also liked riding my 350cc Honda Scrambler on the highway between San Miguel and Subic Bay. I have lots of nice memories. I always loved warm weather, sunshine, shapely sun-tanned women, beer, wine, liquor, good food, good music, more good food, Bar-B-Q, and did I say shapely sun-tanned women? Too many Marines were not quite as lucky during the mid-to-late 1960s and early 1970s. I sometimes think of the Marines who died in Viet Nam and the other campaigns that followed, I also wonder if those responsible for sending them into combat ever think of them as I do. I am proud to have earned the distinction that is associated with the title of United States Marine while serving my country.

I started work in a petrochemical plant one month after leaving the service. I worked at Borden Chemicals for 26 years, attaining the position of shift supervisor over two units. Plant went bankrupt in 2002 and I was laid off. I am now a deputy sheriff for East Baton Rouge Parish. My wife and I have been married for 27 years and I have two sons, ages 25 and 22. The 25 year old works for Exxon and the22 year old is in his last year of college. Becoming a Marine was one of the high points of my life and performing guard duty at Cubi Point was great. I wear a black baseball cap with the Marine Corp Emblem on the front. Needless to say, it is my favorite hat.

I got an Other Than Honorable Discharge out of Subic Bay, basically because I partied too hard, although I never burned in the MAG. I did arrive an hour lat for formation twice, get drunk for my second article 15, and I did take a swing at our brown nosing corporal of the gaurd when he told me he was going to report me for drinking on restriction while in the barracks after the company turned to. I am currently a successfull attorney in Southern California, State Bar #212477. I've come along way from being busted out of the Corps as a lowely private, with an OTH to graduating in the top of my class at Cal-Poly, and also graduating in the top of my class from law school. Who would have ever thought?

I was born in '37, but the system doesn't give me that choice (how can anyone be that old?). While my SRB was assigned to HqCo, I was assigned to NIS (now known as NCIS). My MOS was counterintelligence (0211). There were two NISRAs, NISRA, Subic which had the primary function of criminal investigations and the like, while NISRA, Philippines (where I was assigned) did special operations primarily setup to counter drug (region wide) and theft operations on the base. I still remember when we first arrived in country and the house mouse PFC from HQ Company was reading out the names of who was assigned to what company. He laughed at all of us assigned to B Co and said “Rots of Ruck, Its only for a year and a half… Or so… Less brig time…”
